Account Deletion Request

You have the right to permanently delete your opspoor account and the personal data associated with it. This page explains how to submit a deletion request, what data will be removed, and what information we are legally required to retain.

Account deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. Once your account has been deleted, you will not be able to recover your sightings, notes, or any other data associated with your profile.

How to Request Deletion

To delete your account, send an email to our support team from the email address linked to your opspoor account:

support@opspoor.com

Please use the subject line Account Deletion Request and include the following in your message:

  • The email address registered to your account
  • Your display name or username (if known)
  • A brief confirmation that you understand the deletion is permanent

We will process your request within 30 days and send a confirmation email once your account and data have been removed.

What Gets Deleted

When your account is deleted, the following data is permanently removed:

  • Your account profile (name, email address, bio, profile photo)
  • All wildlife sightings and observations you submitted
  • Photos and media you uploaded
  • Notes, comments, and any other content you created
  • Location history associated with your account
  • In-app preferences and settings
  • Any linked social or third-party authentication tokens

What May Be Retained

Certain information may be retained for a limited period where required by law or for legitimate business purposes:

  • Legal obligations: Records required by applicable law (e.g., financial transactions, tax records) are retained for the legally mandated period.
  • Aggregated, anonymised data: Statistical or research data that cannot identify you may be retained indefinitely for conservation reporting purposes.
  • Abuse prevention: Where an account was flagged for violations of our Terms of Service, minimal records may be retained to prevent re-registration and protect platform integrity.

No retained data is sold or shared with third parties for marketing purposes. For full details, see our Privacy Policy.
